The JPL Running Club held it's annual Smog Jog last Wednesday, August 12, at noon. The Smog Jog is a 4 x 1 mile relay held at the La Canada High School track. Despite the 95 degree heat, we had seven runners participate. The smog, on the other hand, didn't even make a respectable showing. Ozone levels were less than half the value required to declare a first stage smog alert.
The teams were not as evenly matched as we had hoped. Most people guessed they would run slowly becase of the heat, but several did much beter than predicted. We also had two new racers who had never participated in Running Club events, including Carlos Velazquez, who insisted on running two legs for the A-Team.
|Dave Scaff||7:28||Mark Ryne||6:20|
|Randy Wimenta||7:03||Dave Hansen||6:15|
|Carlos Velazquez||5:35||Mark Vincent||6:09|
|Carlos Velazquez||6:08||Len Efron||5:58|
Congratulation to Carlos Velazquez for turning in the fastest leg of the day and to Randy Wimenta who was running in his first race ever. Thanks to Mary Riveria and Eric Tauer, who "volunteered" to keep time (in exchange for the only shady seats at the track). The race was directed by David Hansen.
