The JPL Running Club is holding it's annual Arroyo Seco Freako
Microthon 5 km cross country race this coming Friday, March 30, 2001.
This race, which has been held continuously for the last 27 years,
is usually run on April 1, but I assumed that no one wants to show
up on Sunday. This is also the most heavily attended Running Club
event held at the lab.

The race will follow the "traditional" course, a single loop around
Hahamongna Park (formerly known as Oak Grove or Devils Gate Park).
It is run on pavement and trails and is well marked, so this is a
good opportunity for you recovering LA Marathoners to do a short
run on a soft surface. Ribbons and COLD drinks were provided for
all participants.

To get to the start, exit the JPL Main Gate and turn left at the
Foothill Blvd signal. Follow the road around and then turn left
down the hill into Hahamongna Park (down the hill), then turn right
to the lower parking lot near the baseball diamonds. It takes about
10 minutes if you walk. Please be at the start area by 11:45 am.

Alternately, you can exit the South Gate (by the credit union) and
take an immediate left onto the bridal trial. Take a right at the "T"
then follow the paved road past the Forest Service station. Continue
on the road and bare left at the "Y" (don't go uphill). Look for the
start in the lower parking lot near the baseball diamonds on your right.

Race directors are Bob Ibaven and Rich Benson. Rich's Duck Call
starts race at Noon sharp. Please RSVP to so we bring enough drinks
for everyone.

(NOTE: I couldn't find any race results for 2001. The best evidence I have that this race actually took place is this email that I forwarded to a colleague
less than one hour before racers were due at the start.-- added by Sam)
